The Adventure Salmon Day Camp will portray the influence of salmon to the culture of the northwest as well as build a current appreciation for salmon by understanding its role in the ecosystem. This will be achieved through exposure to agency professionals, local tribal members, community resources, fieldwork, history, art, and activities that are geared towards learning and understanding.
A three-day day-camp is being offered to 4th and 5th graders July 20-22nd. This version of Adventure Salmon Camp will have each day begin and end at the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center located in Belfair.
Campers with have the opportunity to visit locations within the Hood Canal watershed while learning about salmon related issues from historical perspectives, current trends, and salmon physiology through fun activities, discussion, art and journaling.
This adventure camp will portray the influence of salmon to the culture of the northwest as well as build a current appreciation for salmon by understanding its role in the ecosystem.
There will be a ceremony of sorts at the start of the journey that will explore the link of the salmon through the entire watershed.
Each day will find the campers immersed in different habitats within the area, from streams to forest to estuaries. We will engage in arts and crafts, travel to a local beach on Hood Canal, engage in tribal story telling and look for bugs in a local river. Lunch and snacks are also provided each day of camp.
The final afternoon will be at the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center in Belfair for a closing ceremony which will complete the tread and give campers an opportunity to share their experiences with the rest of the group and all the parents.
We look forward to having you join us.
