As the Executive Director, Neil Werner. . .

is responsible for funding, budget planning and updating for our organization.  He hires and manages the HCSEG team overseeing all aspects of the HCSEG operation.  This includes:  community outreach; preparation of funding grants and coordinating with funding agencies; planning and implementing habitat projects in part with the habitat committee; contracting, permitting and reporting in relation to habitat projects.  In his leadership role, Neil executes overall direction of HCSEG to meet our organizations vision and mission.  Neil holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Western Washington University in 1969.  Neil is responsible for all daily operations, grant writing and is liaison for state and federal agencies, legislators, tribes and all other partners.

As the Assistant Executive Director and HCDOP Co-Manager Dan Hannafious. .  .

is involved with many supervisory tasks.  He oversees the Dissolved Oxygen Study of the Hood Canal and HCSEG's Wild Salmon and habitat restoration projects.  He is also a lead instructor of the Adventure Salmon Camps.  With his technical expertise he has provided GIS generated displays and maps and has produced/updates a habitat inventory database used to determine project needs. Additionally, Dan coordinates and trains interns and students with GIS and maintains GPS equipment.  Dan attends and presents at various technical meetings, seminars, & HCSEG events. Lastly, as Assistant Director, Dan supervises all aspects of HCSEG operations.  Dan holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Wildlife Sciences from Oregon State University.

As the Office Manager Kim Gower...

is responsible for general business operations and day-to day functions of HCSEG.  Among her duties, Kim assists in admin accounts, updates our project files, helps to manage grants, operational functions, and assists in other administrative support.  She co-manages membership for the HCSEG; and in addition, researches information for projects, grants and legislative policies.

As the Office Accountant and Administrative Assistant, Mona Pillers

Is responsible for the day to day functions of HCSEG's accounting which includes: billing, recieving and grant preparation, payroll and invoicing.  Among other operational functions, Mona is our recorder.  She diligently attends and prepares and submits reports for all meetings and prepares annual and financial reports for grants and foundations.   In addition, she researches information for projects, grants and legislative policies.   Mona holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Clothing and Textiles with a minor in Business from Oregon State University.

As the Grant Administrator and Office Assistant, Michelle Hori. . .

is responsible for project specific administrative functions including; researching grant information, invoicing and billing for projects.  Michelle is also responsible for information gathering of county, state and federal updates of legislative policies and elected officials.  Michelle graduated from University of California Santa Barbara in 1992 and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. After college, Michelle moved to South Korea to teach English then to Costa Rica. She relocated to San Diego where she worked as a Finance and Business Manager for an events management company. Prior to that she enjoyed working with non-profit land trusts in both Colorado and South Carolina

As the Education Outreach Director, Chris Daniel...

is responsible for HCSEG public relations and press release information with the media.  She is the editor/publisher of our newsletter, webmaster and publishes some informational brochures.  Additionally, Chris is the primary coordinator for HCSEG's special event functions and manages educational outreach including;  coordinating and facilitating salmon education camps and scholarship and intern recruitment.  With her education background, Chris also organizes, facilitates and instructs salmon education workshops and programs to regional groups and school districts.  As part of her outreach responsibilities, she also oversees the HCSEG volunteer database, coordinates volunteer projects and recruits and trains volunteers to execute projects.   Chris assists in information gathering for some grant preparation, and prepares minutes for some technical meetings.  Lastly, she is the procurement agent for the HCSEG.   Chris holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Natural Resources Management and Education from Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, AK and is a certified teacher in Both AK and WA.

As the Steelhead and Marine Debris Specialist, Teresa Sjostrom...

leads the steelhead supplementation work on the Dewatto and Tahuya Rivers and oversees the Derelict Fishing Gear Removal Project.   Teresa manages the CTD data collected by HCSEG and the Skokomish Tribe, processing the data and sending it to the University of Washington.  She leads the HCDOP Diver Observation Program and assists with the dissolved oxygen water sampling effort and analysis.  Teresa holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology from Western Washington UniversityAs a previous four year intern with the HCSEG, Teresa also trains and coordinates projects with our summer interns.

As our Stream Flow and Monitoring Technician, Sean Hildebrandt...

co-manages stream and fish surveys/ monitoring, collects GPS data, supervises interns in the field and maintains/ builds our Wild Salmon Incubators and smolt traps.  He also is responsible for freshwater flow monitoring and maintaining stream gauging stations and databases.   Additionally, Sean is heavily involved with the HCDOP study and is a primary boat operator/facilitator and assists in marine water sampling efforts.  Additionally, Sean manages intern data for export to other organizations.  Sean has four years of upland and in-stream habitat restoration and fisheries research experience.  Sean has a Bachelors Degree from Evergreen State in Environmental Studies.

As the Water Quality Specialist/ Field Team Coordinator, Renee Rose…

is the coordinator for the Hood Canal Dissolved Oxygen Citizen's Monitoring Program.  As the coordinator, Renee oversees dissolved oxygen sampling analysis and manages the HCSEG laboratory.  She also is responsible for compiling field data to be transferred to the University of Washington and the WA Department of Ecology.  As our water quality specialist, Renee assists in managing the flow monitoring database, trains and equips volunteers to collect water samples, assists in maintaining weather and gauging stations and manages the water quality data.  In addition, Renee assists with education outreach teaching about water quality and salmon related issues.   Renee Holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Geosciences and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies from Pacific Lutheran University.

As the Molluscan Research Specialist, Bill Rehe...

provides project leadership for the HCSEG Molluscan Study, including collection side scan sonar data to create Hood Canal benthic habitat map and designing and implementing Benthic Flux study to examine the influence of geoduck clam populations on the environmental conditions of the Hood Canal. Bill is also developing a technical laboratory for various scientific programs including scale and otolith reading (age and growth analysis) and DNA analysis.  Additionally, he provides support for ongoing HCSEG research and education projects. Bill holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Fisheries Science from Colorado State University and a Masters of Science Degree in Fisheries Science from Oregon State University.

As a Nutrification Project Director and Quilcene Bay Monitoring Project Manager, Mendy Harlow... 

oversees many related salmon field projects.  She is directly responsible for genetic sampling of salmonid and overseeing the Union River Summer Chum /Tahuya supplementation and Dewatto Nutrification projects.  Mendy also oversees our nutrification project/study, installing smolt traps and coordinating carcass dispersal.  Additionally she assists with our Dissolved Oxygen research team as one of our dissolved oxygen samplers and boat operators.  She also monitors estuarine fresh and salt water quality at project site locations.  Lastly, Mendy conducts the WildWise program to area school districts for the Environmental Explorations Program.  Mendy has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Arizona.

As Administrative and Education Assistant, Julie Easton...

assists in education outreach and HCSEG event coordination.  She also helps to maintain current information for the volunteer database and recruitment.  Additionally, Julie assists in both office and field support, maintains HCSEG's merchandise inventory and she coordinates and manages membership for the HCSEG.

As or Maintenance and Field Technician Don Husted...

is responsible for equipment, building and vehicle/boat maintenance.  Don also assists with salmon related projects including; surveys, trap monitoring, fish rearing, stream gauging and fresh/marine water monitoring.
