Planning begins on the Union River Dike Project
The project to reestablish a connection to former estuary habitat blocked by a dike along the Union River is in the planning stages. The goal of the project is to remove sections of the dike, replace them with pile supported walkways, and keep the Theler Wetlands Trail system intact. The project will restore estuarine habitat, and benefit salmon and many other wetland organisms. The first planning meeting was held on July 1, 2010.
